The Perriello for Congress campaign is now accepting applications for its fall internship program. Read on for more information and the application!

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

The Perriello campaign is recruiting young people to form a team that will engage in one of the most intensive voter registration, identification, and education efforts ever conducted by a congressional campaign.

Interns will participate in intense grassroots training at the outset of the program. They will then receive ambitious goals for registering new voters and raising awareness, particularly among underserved groups. The interns are expected to develop into a diverse, collegial group that will lead young volunteers as the campaign accelerates into the fall election.

A major goal of the internship program will be to mobilize voters and prepare us for a strong “get out the vote” effort in October and November. To accomplish this, interns will need to adapt quickly to shifting campaign priorities and should expect to participate in activities including door-to-door canvassing, establishing a pervasive presence at public gatherings (county fairs, BBQs, concerts, etc.), phone banking, and other means of reaching potential voters.  Interns will also participate in community service as part of the campaign’s volunteer tithing program.

ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN:

In Congress, Rep. Perriello has worked hard to restore our nation’s commitment to service and the common good. In 2009 alone, $1 million dollars in corporate money has been spent on negative attack ads against Rep Perriello because he hasn't been willing to play ball with the usual special interests and lobbyists in Washington. What's more, both Democrats and Republicans see this as a bellwether race for the 2010 midterm elections. By holding true to his principles and working a double shift in Congress, Rep. Perriello has been able to garner strong support in a typically conservative district, but Republicans still view him as their top target. Your work will help swing the momentum in our favor and ensure that Rep. Perriello returns to Washington to fight for the best interests of his district rather than those of corporate lobbyists and DC insiders.

The Perriello for Congress campaign has designed a fall internship program to reflect our belief that this campaign is part of a larger movement for the common good. This program offers a great opportunity for young people to play a major role in an election year that will help set the tone of our country’s future. Our campaign is looking for a diverse group of highly talented and motivated high school and college students to participate.
