Monday August 18th was a big day for the Perriello Campaign in Southside Virginia. The day started early, when Tom was endorsed by the USWA Local 831 Steelworkers Union in Danville. The local USWA represents about 2,250 workers from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and Service Store as well as the URW Community Federal Credit Union. Tom's commitment to helping working families and strong belief in the individual right to organize has led to strong support from our local unions.

Tom Perriello and Virgil Goode met head to head for the first time at the Senior Statesmen of Virginia Candidates Forum, and everyone agrees that Tom was the candidate who had a better grasp of the issues, a stronger message, and showed the type of leadership the Fifth District needs.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has just named us to their prestigious Red to Blue program, meaning that they think we are one of the most likely Democratic Congressional races in the country to win in November.

The Perriello campaign recently had a wonderful day in Martinsville, accompanied by best-selling author John Grisham. Grisham, a long-time resident of the Fifth District, joined us for four events in the scorching sun, meeting hundreds of citizens of Martinsville, and explaining to them why he's endorsing Tom Perriello for Congress. Grisham's novels feature strong working-class underdogs battling the corrupt and the powerful. There is no better comparison for Tom!

This month Tom visited all 22 counties and municipalities in the 5th District, talking with hundreds of concerned citizens about his plan for Economic REVIVAL. Tom listened to laid off furniture workers in Martinsville, small business owners in Campbell County, farmers in Brunswick and teachers in Albemarle. Everywhere he went he heard about the need for new leadership, and the desire for better paying jobs and a strong economy. Tom's economic REVIVAL plan was road-tested all month, and will help him respond to the needs of the people of Central and Southside Virginia.

It's been a busy week for the Perriello campaign!  Tom visited the Halifax Cantaloupe Festival, which was a huge gathering of folks from all over Southside. Tom was able to meet hundreds of people and talk about his new brand of leadership and his solutions for the 5th district (and have some delicious cantaloupe!).

Tom went to Martinsville to launch his seven-point economic REVIVAL Tour. Tom’s top priority in Congress will be to bring new jobs and economic relief to families in Southside and Central Virginia. He believes that the key to our economic revival is workforce development, infrastructure, and support for small business. There are no shortcuts or quick fixes—only a major commitment to economic revival for our communities.
